Canyon Moon Theatre presents the new play Development, by local playwright Warren Doody. The play is produced by Theatrikos Theatre Company in a joint project between the two companies.

Development is a new play that explores the many facets of the illness of schizophrenia. Walter, a formerly successful businessman, who, twenty years earlier, vanished, re-appears in a hospital in the middle of the California desert. His two sons – Cliff and Travis are notified, and they converge upon the desert to make peace with their father. Cliff is a Hollywood studio executive on the cusp of success. Travis is a drifter, living in Mexico, who, after his father ran away, ran away, too, making the reunion at the hospital complicated and emotional. The play moves back and forth in time, dramatizing the beginnings of Walter’s illness, and the impact it had on his family.

The play is co-directed by Linda Sutera and Virginia Brown. Playwright Warren Doody also wrote Enlightenment, which played to sold-out audiences at Theatrikos in 2009. Doody will be in residence during the production.

Development plays Thursday through Sunday, August 23 through 26. Tickets are $12. Full-time student tickets are $8. To purchase tickets or for information, call CMT at 928-282-6212. Tickets are also available at Rycus’ Corners and Marketplace Café in the VOC and at Basha’s in West Sedona. Thursday through Saturday, shows are at 7:30 p.m.; the Sunday performance is at 3:00 p.m. Canyon Moon Theatre is located in the Oak Creek Factory Outlets, three stores down from the GAP on Highway 179 in the Village of Oak Creek.
