by BWW News Desk (Mesa)(3/8/2013) - The Mesa Arts Center presents Word Becomes Flesh, a show about the thoughts and fears of African American men as they each await the birth of their first child using spoken word, dance and live music. The show runs tonight, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 9 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Both shows will be in the Nesbitt Elliott Playhouse.
Regional Opera Company of the Week: Arizona Opera
by Scott Frost (Mesa)(3/7/2013) - Arizona Opera was originally known as Tucson Opera Company and founded in 1971 by a group of opera enthusiasts. The inaugural season was two performances of The Barber of Seville by Rossini in Tucson but by the 1976-77 season the company was performing their complete seasons in both Tucson and Phoenix. Now in the 42nd season, the company produces five grand operas throughout the state each season and is one of the only companies in the US that performs in two cities.
